About

We Look Forward To Welcoming You To Show What Farming In Scotland Is Really Like!

We are the fourth generation of McEwen family to farm Arnprior and we couldn’t be happier to be developing, diversity and enjoying our ‘time’ at Arnprior Farm. Together with our three children and the unwavering support of our parents we are intent on developing Arnprior to bring farming to life.

Arnprior Farm was established by my Duncan’s family in 1936 and was primarily a beef, sheep and arable farm until 2015, when we decided to sell the cattle, increase sheep numbers, and try out diversification in the form of pumpkins. Some thought we were mad! They still do! In five years, we have grown thousands of pumpkins and welcomed more than 1,500 people to our farm each year.

We love our pumpkin patch and when we became one of Scotland’s original and first pumpkin farms, we knew that Scotland was ready for pumpkins. Having suddenly become famous for pumpkins (something we never thought we would say!) we are delighted that we have become known for also creating unique interactive family farming days.

In 2019 we took a huge leap of faith (again!) and designed and built our own eco-friendly luxury glamping pod campsite. Complete with a bespoke private indoor swimming pool!

Arnprior is surrounded by the beauty and calm of the hills of Stirlingshire and close to Stirling for day trips and sightseeing so we knew that our farm was in the ideal spot for tourism too.

From lambing experiences in Spring to our famous pick your own pumpkin patch in Autumn, we are always busy! And with three children, 60 suckler cows, 1,300 sheep, 800 acres of land and over 20,000 pumpkins to grow there’s always something to do….but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sustainability Is Key

Our Farming Ethos

At Arnprior Farm we view ourselves as custodians of the land, preserving it for future generations. Farming in harmony with nature and our local environment, we have developed a balanced farming system and enterprise mix, with a strong emphasis on high animal welfare and building biodiversity with the aim to produce sustainable, highly nutritious food and provide a window into our agricultural lives for the public to enjoy.

Environmental Stewardship

Borehole Spring

Arnprior Farm’s water supply that we use in the pods and the swimming pool has been pumped from a mineral rich underground aquifer 70 m below the ground.

Biomass Boiler

Our biomass boiler burns local and sustainably sourced woodchip in order to produce heat that we use to dry the grain we grow for safe storage after harvest. The boiler also heats our swimming pool to 32°C and heats the farmhouse and 3 houses on the farm.
Planted 1300m of new hedges.
We have fenced off 3.6km of waterways to create a water margin, which creates a buffer between the land we farm and the water courses which run through the land and helps create safe habitat for wildlife. The network of water courses, new hedges, existing hedges, create a wildlife corridor the length of the farm.
We annually plant 1.2 hectares of a special wild bird seed mix to help feed the local bird population through the winter months.
We manage 20 hectares of grassland annually specifically for ground nesting waders; Lapwing, Curlew & Oyster Catchers.
We have also installed a number of bird & owl boxes, a bumble bee hotel and bird feeders throughout the farm, as well as planting 0.5ha of species rich grassland. This is through our involvement with “Birds and the Bees Project”, in conjunction with ScotFWAG.
57 Hectares of lowland heath at the top of the farm is ungrazed during the winter to help support the habitat for wildlife.
